Friendlies Preview

By Tom Snee

9th and 10th July

This weekend sees a large number of Evo-Stik League teams begin their pre-season friendlies in earnest, with many of them facing tough opposition.

Sheffield FC of the First Division South face arguably the toughest start to their preparations for the new season as they take on cross-city outfit Sheffield United, who were last season relegated from the npower Championship.

Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Buxton welcome Macclesfield Town of League Two to Silverlands, while Chorley - promoted from First Division North last season - take on Preston North End.

Also taking on the Deepdale side this weekend are Bamber Bridge, while Newcastle Town take on neighbours Port Vale, with both games are being played on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Mossley take on last season's Premier Division winners FC Halifax Town, while losing play-off finalists FC United of Manchester begin their warm-ups with a trip to Welsh Premier League side Airbus UK Broughton.

Evo-Stik League new boys New Mills take on North West Counties League side Abbey Hey on Saturday, while Rainworth Miners Welfare take on Mansfield Town at Kirklington Road.

The only all-Evo-Stik clash also takes place tomorrow (Saturday), with Worksop Town visiting Harrogate Railway Athletic, and Matlock Town begin life without talisman Ross Hannah with a trip to Baris NCEL side Teversal.
