White, pictured, starred in defence for Skem between 2007 and 2010 with a total of 157 appearances and 37 goals before going on to play for Bamber Bridge, Formby and Runcorn Linnets and enjoy more recent spells at AFC Liverpool, Burscough and Widnes.
Skem manager Dave Powell welcomed the United legend back to the EVO-STIK League West club in a statement on Saturday.
Powell said: "I am delighted to welcome Michael back to United, he is a player who can provide great experience both on the pitch as a strong defender and potentially off the pitch in a coaching capacity."
White told the club's website: "Coming back to Skem is a pleasure for me. It has always been a top club on and off the pitch with great people behind the scenes. When Dave contacted me, I didn't hesitate to accept the offer and I'm looking forward to good things ahead for the club and am excited to get going."
He added: "Watch out EVO-STIK League - Skem are on their way back!"
