Hednesford Town update

Hednesford Town have announced their first signing of the Summer with the capture of twenty-seven year old Chris Shaw from Conference North outfit Eastwood Town.

The former Grantham defender can operate at either left-back or centre half and played over one-hundred-and-fifty games for The Badgers scoring an impressive twenty-four goals.

Pitmen Manager, Rob Smith, was delighted to unveil the signing and sees Shaw as a vital part of his squad for the coming Evo-Stik Northern League campaign, ‘I felt that after last season’s disappointment in the Play-Offs the squad needed some experienced heads to help develop our ever-improving young players and Chris fitted the bill. He is strong in the tackle, left-footed, and will give some competition on the dead-ball situations with Darren Campion.’

Smith acknowledged that Shaw’s signing was seen as a replacement for former Club Captain Liam Francis, who made the move along the A5 to Conference team Tamworth earlier last week.

‘Liam was solid for us last season and an important player in the dressing room, I would have loved to have seen Liam stay with us but Tamworth are two leagues higher and he goes with our blessing. Now we must look forward and the signing of Chris Shaw signal’s our ambitions for the season ahead.’

This week also saw the departure of striker Kyle Patterson from Keys Park as a pivotal player in The Pitmen’s charge to the Play-Offs opted to move to Tamworth next season.

Larry Chambers admitted the Club were disappointed to see one of their top performers leave but is happy that himself, Smith and the Chairman, Steve Price, did everything they could to persuade the former LA Galaxy player to stay.

‘We made Kyle a very good offer but unfortunately for us he has decided to move up the pyramid into the Conference. The Chairman was generous in allowing our budget to be stretched to keep such a high-quality player but we can now use some of that money to look for further improvements in our squad; as has been proved with the recent acquisition of Chris Shaw.’
