The Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West Division club recently applied for the annual Buildbase competition, which supports non-league clubs with securing large sums of money by means of materials. This is to support individual clubs with projects to benefit their club.
Pontefract Collieries said in a statement: "We as a club applied for the competition to gain much needed support, to grow our club off the field and help improve our facilities. After a year of financial difficulties, the club have continued to support our community in any way we can.
"Last year we began our food hub initiative, which sees us support families in need in our community. The initiative provides food packages to families and individuals that are struggling to provide food and hygiene products. We, in partnership with Knottingley Morrisons, have already helped many families during the difficult times we currently live in.
"The project we have applied for will see us to be able to vastly improve our current facilities. The prize money would allow us to be able to improve our club house, changing facilities, main stand and will help with the installation of our state of the art kitchen.
"We plan to launch educational courses (in partnership with partners Keats Education), which will help people understand the benefits of good nutrition. We will also teach individuals and families how to be able to cook healthy and nutritional meals."
Pontefract Collieries currently have more than 4,800 votes, and are competing with 11 other clubs.
