West Preview: Linnets square off with Radcliffe

By James Gordon

We’re in for a titanic battle at the top end of the table as Runcorn Linnets travel to the Neuven Stadium to take on Radcliffe FC.

Both sides have had 14 days to prepare for the game, with their respective games last weekend called off due to poor weather.

Boro have won eight of the last 10 on home soil, but with Michael Ellison’s side also in superb form on the road – aside from a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Kidsgrove at the start of the month – this promises to be a cracker.

Atherton Collieries will have to watch on this weekend as the two sides below battle it out. Victory for either side would reduce the gap at the top to just one points, albeit with Colls having a game in hand.

In the race for the play-offs, Ramsbottom will look to end their two-game losing run at home to eighth-placed Prescot Cables, who have slid down the table after a run of just two wins in their last 10 games.

There is another intriguing battle in the fight for a top five spot as Mossley’s run of six home wins in their last seven is given a thorough examination by Colne, who would end the day ahead of their fifth-placed hosts on goal difference with a win.

Elsewhere this round, Leek Town will seek to end their four-game winless run on home soil when they welcome Market Drayton Town, while Trafford visit a Kendal Town side with just one win in their last six.

Kidsgrove Athletic have the chance to go within one point of 10th-placed Colywn Bay when the sides come together at Hollinwood Road, whereas Clitheroe can break further away from the bottom two and leapfrog opponents Glossop North End with victory at the Shawbridge.

In the final two games of the round, Skelmersdale United have the chance to end their run of just three points from a possible 30 in the league when they face off with Droylsden, while Widnes will look to build on last week’s impressive 4-1 victory over Skelmersdale away at Newcastle Town.
