England joy for Malbon

Former Newcastle striker earns call-up

Former Newcastle Town star Anthony Malbon's season just gets better and better.

Having scored 31 goals in 34 games for Newcastle Town, Malbon, who was picked up from Port Vale, was transferred to Kidderminster Harriers for a small fee with add ons and immediately made his mark scoring the winning goal in the final minute after coming on as a substitute.

He went on to score 8 goals in 13 full appearances and 3 as a substitute, earning Town more money due to his goals and appearances. However his last appearance for Kidderminster saw him airlifted to hospital with neck and head injuries in a game against Mansfield Town. Malbon will travel to Russia with the England C Team for the game on June 5th.

Malbon said " I am excited but it is all a bit weird. I was playing for Newcastle Town a bit ago and now I'm going to play against Russia." Town spokesman Ray Tatton said, It's great news for Anthony and everyone at the club is delighted for him. He did so well here and has not let the success go to his head as he comes back to watch all the teams when he can. Hopefully he can continue to progress and make an even bigger name for himself."

However it was not such a happy time for two other Castle players as they both suffered serious injuries in helping out the Reserves who had three games in five days to complete their season. First serious injury of the week came on Monday at Norton when following a challenge Curtis Price was carried off and it has been diagnosed that he has got a broken leg.

Secondly after 35 minutes of the game against League Runners-Up Redgate Clayton Kyle Diskin turned sharply and went down in agony after catching his studs in the grass and was carried off on a stretcher before being taken to hospital by ambulance. It has since been discovered that he has torn quads and ankle ligament damage.
