FA Cup journey a “surreal” feeling says Neil Kengni

Marine forward Neil Kengni says the club’s Emirates FA Cup success is a surreal feeling following their First Round Proper victory over Colchester United.

Neil Young’s side remain the last Pitching In Northern Premier League side in the FA Cup after a penalty shoot-out victory over Football League Two’s Colchester.

The club progressed to the second round for the first time in 28 years, and defeated football league opposition away from home in the first time in their history.

“The buzz is still around, it is still surreal to some of us,” said Kengni, a former Rochdale academy player.

“During the penalty shoot-out, I knew we were going to win it just simply because of how we stuck together as a team and how focused we were during the whole game, and it paid off during the penalty shoot-out.

“On the way home, all the boys were bouncing with excitement and full of energy. The coach was very loud, everyone singing along to songs and enjoying this great feeling.

“It was a bit devastating to be playing without the fans as they play a big part each game we go into. They believed in us and I am sure we made the fans proud.”

Marine will host Havant and Waterlooville in the second round.
