Fans thanked for salute to services

Stourbridge's proud officials have thanked supporters for raising more than £750 for The Royal British Legion during their EVO-STIK League clash with Witton Albion.

A cheque for £769.73 is on its way to the armed forces charity ahead of Remembrance Sunday this weekend after bucket collections throughout last Saturday's top flight clash at The War Memorial Ground.

Past and present servicemen and women were invited to see the match for free as generous home and away fans lived up to history behind the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club's home, built in 1928 as a permanent memorial to the local soldiers and sailors who lost their lives in World War One.

‘Stourbridge Remembers’ poppy pin badges were on sale at the ground to add to the total and officials say they were snapped up by supporters keen to take the opportunity to show their support with the club away this weekend at St Neots Town in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

The Glassboys said: "We are proud to announce that the total raised by the club and its fans is £769.73. There was a bucket collection set up that ran throughout the day and we would like to thank all supporters for their generosity.

"To add to the total raised on Saturday, we also sold out of the ‘Stourbridge Remembers’ poppy pin badges that were made specially with Remembrance Sunday coming up. All proceeds from the sale of the badges has been added to the bucket collection total, meaning the brilliant Royal British Legion will profit to the tune of almost £770."

The club added: "The club would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who contributed to the bucket collection or purchased a pin badge. Lest We Forget."
