FA Cup success a lifetime memory for Passant

By James Gordon

Marine goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant says the club's FA Cup success will be a lifetime memory for the 19-year-old.

Neil Young’s side will host Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Cup Second Round, which will be live on BT Sport 1 on Sunday 29 November from 2:45.

On their journey so far, Marine have defeated Barnoldswick Town, Tadcaster Albion, Runcorn Linnets, Nantwich Town and Chester, before claiming a penalty shoot-out victory over Colchester United in the First Round Proper.

Now, they are dreaming of making it to the Emirate FA Cup Third Round for only the second time in their 126 year history.

“It’s amazing time for everyone that’s associated with Marine; the players, the managers, the committee and the fans. ” said Passant, who joined Marine from Tranmere Rovers,

“Because of what’s happened this year with Covid and lockdown, I think it’s just made it that bit more special for everyone.

“It’s a huge game on Sunday. A massive one for us as a team and I believe we are all confident going into the game as you should be, but we know we are going to have to be at 100% as soon as the whistle has blown for kick-off.

“It’s amazing for us as players to be playing on BT in the second round of the FA Cup to show ourselves off to many people that aren’t fans off Marine.

“It’s a massive dream for us to be playing in the FA Cup and we have been underdogs throughout this run and written off before every game has started.

“It is going to be a lifetime memory for me and it would be better if we are to win and get the likes of Liverpool in the next round.”

Their opponents in Havant & Waterlooville currently feature in the National League South, sitting ninth with a record of three wins, one draw and one loss so far this campaign,

They have defeated Chatham Town, Bath City and Cray Valley PM to reach the second round for only the second time in their history.

“We are expecting it to be a tough game against a team two leagues above us,” said Passant.

“At the end of the day, both teams are one game away from the third round from playing against the Premier League teams and will give it there all to get there.”
