Kelly returns for permanent post

By David Watters

Darren Kelly has been named as the new manager of Hyde United after taking charge of their final six games of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League season.

Despite being at the helm when the supporter-run Tigers slipped to their third successive relegation in April, former Oldham Athletic and FC Halifax Town boss Kelly, pictured, was unveiled on Friday.

Officials at Ewen Fields say Kelly, who took temporary charge in the wake of Gary Lowe's departure in April before stepping down at the end of the campaign, beat more than thirty rivals to the post after they conducted final interviews on Wednesday with a shortlist of three candidates.

Kelly, who is expected to appoint his backroom team within weeks, is now looking forward to meeting the club's supporters at a forum the Tigers are planning. He is also set to benefit from exciting plans currently being put in place to transform the club's financial position, integrate their successful academy and develop a community programme to increase supporter involvement and boost attendances next season.

In a statement following his appoointment, Kelly said: "I am honoured to be given this opportunity and excited by the potential at Hyde United. My six games in charge have shown me what a fantastic club this is, from the supporters right through to the board."

He added: "This will be the first managerial role where I have the freedom to select my own back room staff and playing squad and I intend to assemble an entertaining and competitive side who will deliver success for the club and the people of Hyde."
