N/West round-up: Rare slip up at the top

By James Gordon

At the top of the table, Workington suffered just their third loss of the season as they fell 2-1 to Pontefract Collieries.

Joe Lumsden scored a brace for the homeside, while a 70th minute Scott Allison threatened a comeback, but the Colls held on.

The lead has been cut to just two points at the top, with Marine in second place and a Niall Cummins brace claiming a 2-1 victory over Prescot Cables.

A win for Ossett sees them move away from the relegation play-off spots, with an impressive 4-0 victory over Brighouse Town. Tom Greaves opened the scoring in the second half, while Marko Basic, Luke Porritt and Jack Stockdill all scored in the second.

Elsewhere in the play-offs, Ramsbottom United defeated Trafford 2-1 with a double from Nic Evangelinos. Max Hazeldine scored in injury time for the hosts, but it was too little too late.

Pickering Town have announced the departure of manager Denny Ingram as they sit at the foot of the table and recently suffered a 3-0 defeat to Tadcaster Albion, who take the last spot in the play-offs.

Liam Caddick scored twice for Runcorn Linnets in the second half to claim a victory over City of Liverpool, while Clitheroe edge closer to a play-off spot with a 1-0 win over Colne.

Widnes bounced back from their Boxing Day defeat with a 4-0 victory against Kendal Town, while Mossley defeated Droylsden 2-1.

Dunston’s home fixture against Marske United fell to postponement.
