Upsets are harder to find in the early rounds of the Emirates FA Cup but Saturday`s preliminary round saw more than a handful involving teams from lower divisions and the EVO-STIK League’s clubs, writes Steve Whitney at Non-League Today.

EVO-STIK League East Loughborough Dynamo were beaten at home by Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit Bottesford Town, whose Jack McMenemy bagged a brace, Dale Hutson and Craig Bridge with the others, Jordan Wilson and Danny Gordon replying.

EVO-STIK League East Brighouse Town are also out, Tim Whittaker and Elliott Simspon scoring for Parkgate before the break at the Dual Seal Stadium.

What hasn’t been reported about EVO-STIK West side Clitheroe`s 6-6 draw with Northern Leaguers Sunderland RCA!

Obi Anorou bagged a hat-trick for the hosts, their other goals an Ollie Wood 18th minute penalty, Josh Gregory on the half hour mark and Antoine Recizac 90 in the final minute before Luke Page and Nathan O’Neill struck twice in time added on.

West Midlands Regional League side Haughmond looked to be heading out of the competition when EVO-STIK League West visitors Market Drayton Town broke the deadlock in the 88th minute through Daniel Beddows but Scott Ryan popped up in stoppage time to earn the minnows a second chance.

Another WMRL side to earn a second crack at a team two levels higher are Wednesfield, who held EVO-STIK League West visitors Chasetown to a 2-2 draw.

Jacob Lovatt and George Cater gave the Scholars a 2-1 lead until Kevin Nickle earned Wednesfield a second go with his second goal two minutes from time.

Northern Counties East League Division One outfit Selby Town will fancy their chances now after holding EVO-STIK League West hosts Kendal Town to a 1-1 draw at Parkside, Ben Thomas eventually levelling Carl Stewart`s 15th minute opener for Selby on 66 minutes.

EVO-STIK League East side Cleethorpes Town will have home advantage now over Midland League Premier Division outfit Loughborough University after being pegged back in stoppage time in a 3-3 thriller.

Alex Flett`s 21st minute opener led the tie for Clee until the 66th minute when Christian Eneremadu equalised. Just two minutes later, Jon Oglesby restored Clee`s lead, only for the hosts to level again through Dan Hanson two minutes later. Northern League First Division club Shildon’s hopes of a good run were dashed when they were beaten 4-1 at EVO-STIK League East Tadcaster Albion.

Shildon were hoping to pull off a shock and have a good run in the competition like they did last season but they were always up against it once Joe Lumsden gave Taddy an early lead.

Lumsden made it 2-0 just before half time after he played a 1-2, but Shildon player-manager Danny Moore gave his side hope with a header from Keith Graydon’s free kick. Billy Whitehouse and Casey Stewart added further goals and knocked Shildon out.
