Basford United missed the opportunity to put pressure on the top five in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South table after losing 4-2 at Chasetown on Tuesday night.

Before kick-off, both teams paid tribute to long-serving Chasetown physio Mick Andrews, who sadly passed away this week.

A minutes` silence impeccably observed by both teams was a real testament and the home side produced a performance of which he would have been proud.

Charlie Blakemore earlier this evening sent this comment about lifelong friend Mick Andrews.

"I have been in Munich this week and have just been to see Carol and her family. I don't have social media but would like to pay my respects to Mick on our website.

"I have known Mick for 26 years. We were together in football for the majority of that time and when I became Manager at Chasetown he was one of my first and best signings

"He was a great character to have at any club. He was always at the centre of activity and loved the banter and unique atmosphere in the dressing room and club house.

"I have so many happy memories of Mick and we would always reminisce and laugh at the things we used to get up to. He will be sadly missed by everyone at Chasetown but never ever forgotten. The saying 'he was a true gentleman' truly relates to Mick - he was a Top Man."

It is with great sadness that Chasetown FC announce the passing of club physio Mick Andrews on Tuesday night.

Mick was a legend of non-league football and had spent a long and established career in local semi-professional football.

A popular man, described as many colleagues and former players as a "true gentleman" had been with Chasetown FC for many seasons and had been the heart beat of the Chasetown physio room along with Ted Highfield and Gary McHale.

Former captain Lee Parsons and said, "glad I had the pleasure of working with you and being a part of so many memories together."

Scholars Assistant Manager Cameron Stuart added, "This was really hard news to take before our game tonight. A man that never stopped smiling and couldn't do enough to help you. Made me feel welcome from day 1 at Chasetown and his positivity was always there no matter the result. He has helped so many over the years. A true legend of a man and my thoughts are with his family."

Another former skipper Rob Simcox said, "Mick was a top bloke. He put me back together after several bad injuries. But more than just his skills as a physio is the great atmosphere that came with him. It's no coincidence that he was involved with successful sides as he was key in creating a winning team environment"

The family of Mick Andrews have passed on the following information.

Mick's funeral will be held at 10.15 on Monday 27th February at St. Paul's Church, Coven.

Parking may be a problem on the day so please just be aware - if you can also car share that would potentially make a huge difference.

Dave Stringer has today paid tribute to club physio Mick Andrews who sadly passed away last night.

The Scholars boss confirmed to hearing the devastating news just moments before his sides 2-0 Staffordshire Senior Cup win over Newcastle Town.

And Stringer admitted it was a tough evening for everyone at the club to take, but he will never forget the man who always liked a laugh.

“It was with immense sadness, we received the news last night that our great friend Mick Andrews had passed away", Stringer said.

“It was an extremely difficult night for us all at the club because Mick was very much loved by everybody.

“Mick was a true gentleman and had a smile and time to talk to everybody and he made me feel so welcome from the minute I came to the club.

“The very first place I always headed on match days and training nights was to the physio room to see Mick and have a chat and a laugh with him.

“I'll truly miss these times with him. We will all miss him greatly.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Carol and the family at this sad time.

“God bless Mick”
