Fingers crossed on green light for new stand

Officials at the Premier Division club announced on Tuesday that they were keeping their fingers crossed with the project currently under the scrutiny of their local authority's planners.

Skelmersdale United chairman Paul Griffiths said: “We have been planning the development at the ground for around 18 months, it is much needed. But it is something we have needed since we moved to the ground.

"There is a lack of covered accommodation for supporters, as a result they suffer during the bad weather and that isn’t good. The way the club is set up the supporters are the members and are entitled to decent facilities.

“The stand will go from roughly penalty area to penalty area on the present open side of the ground, it will be three steps deep and if need be can easily be converted to seating and if so would hold around 380 seats.

Supporters Club chairman Graham West echoed the views Griffiths as he backed the club's plans on Tuesday ahead of Tommy Lawson's side hosting Workington in the top flight.

West said: “In my opinion a cover on the side opposite the main stand will be greatly appreciated by the supporters, it is not great watching a game from behind the goal but you have to in bad weather because it is the only standing cover, many supporters have requested a cover along the side for a number of years now.”
