Sharman, 20, was one of a clutch of players released by Spireites boss James Rowe during the summer. He was involved in the Chesterfield first team squad at the beginning of the 2020/21 season under former manager John Pemberton, but Rowe sent Sharman out on loan to Blyth Spartans shortly before the National League North season was curtailed.
Phillips says that Sharman has all the attributes to return to the full time game.
He said: “We needed a third centre half and Jamie was on our list of targets. It’s gone to the wire but we’ve got things done in time for tomorrow. He’s played at a very good level for such a young lad and he’s dead keen to get back in the professional game and better himself. He looks after himself and fits the bill as far as we’re concerned on the type of player we want at the club.”
Matlock also recently announced the return of winger Craig King and the loan signing of Doncaster Rovers midfielder Lirak Hasani.
