Frickley to cut wage budget

Club statement

The board of Frickley Athletic have reluctantly had to take the decision to reduce the playing budget between now and the end of the season.

The decision was a hard one to make given that the manager Peter Rinkcavage is currently building a competitive squad but, the board were not prepared to put the future of the club in jeopardy by overspending on wages.

The manager and his staff are obviously disappointed with this but understand the position the club is in and has stressed that they are more than keen to work with the club to overcome this financial obstacle.

The reason for the budget reduction is simple in that income is down in numerous areas against that which was predicted in the summer based on previous seasons’ experience. The main areas being sponsorship, gate money and bar income.

On top of this the club has been unfortunate to have several contracted players injured for long periods in the first half of this season who have to be paid on top of the matchday squad.

The only way, therefore, that the shortfall in income can be addressed is by reducing the club’s outgoings – mainly the playing budget.

The board are keen to stress that monies paid into the 100 Club will stay separate for use in various projects away from the day to day running of the club, as originally intended. It is also stressed that the club is in an otherwise healthy financial state with no debts other than its manageable bank overdraft facility and the reduction in playing budget is to maintain this position.

The board and manager hope that this will not have a massive impact on the playing squad and that most will help us through this period. However, we need the help of the fans more than ever both in support on the terraces and through volunteering to help the club in any way you can. This includes tidying up at the ground, help with fundraising initiatives and matchday duties. Please continue to get behind the team and support the club as much as you can.
