Fuller moves to Football Development role

AFC Fylde statement.

AFC Fylde are delighted to confirm Mick Fuller has accepted a new role as Director of Football Development at the club.

Fuller was in charge of the Coasters for one game against Woodley Sports in a caretaker role following the departure of former boss Kelham O’Hanlon.

The Fylde stalwart had told the club he was keen to remain in a “fulfilling role” once the new managerial appointment of Dave Challinor and Colin Woodthorpe was in place, stressing he wanted to focus on player development. In the new role Mick will act as a link between the reserves and U18’s to first team manager, Dave Challinor, and as such both the reserve and U18’s managers will report into him.

Fuller said “I’m looking forward to this new role helping develop young players for the future, working with the Reserves, Under 18’s and developing links with local junior clubs. I spoke to The Chairman, the President and new manager and wanted a challenge and something that enabled me to give something back to the club. I very much see this role as a way to contribute to the club’s future development. The game against Woodley made me realise I can still contribute but in a position that allows me to help and support the new management team by finding and developing young players”.

AFC Fylde Chairman, David Haythornthwaite said “ Both Dai and I are delighted to welcome Mick onto the Executive Board as Director of Football Development for the club. Mick’s status at the club is legendary and I know how much the club means to him and what he means to our supporters and ex players

I am sure that under his guidance we will see some real progress and our efforts to work with the local community at all levels will receive a massive boost. This needs a robust structure putting in place where everyone in the club understands their role. There is no one better than Mick to do this.

Bringing young players to any football club and developing them to a first team regular is difficult at any club but we believe Mick can achieve this aim over the coming years”.
