Future bright for Park Avenue

Bradford Park Avenue update, by Lewis Sale

The future looks bright for Bradford (Park Avenue) according to manager John Deacey.

"we have some good players with the likes of Michael Duckworth, Jordan Deacey and Billy Law, who will get their chance this season," said Deacey.

A mix of both experience and youth, has helped Bradford to a strong start, who currently lie a place outside the playoffs, with two games in hand on fifth place Marine.

Also, Avenue are in the Quarter Finals of The Doodson Sport Cup and the Semi Finals of the West Riding County Cup.

But, Deacey has seen some of his younger players become key figures in his first team plans. The signing of Ross Daly from Thackley has been praised by the chairman this year, and Michael Duckworth, as well as Billy Law, have both had a positive impact when called upon.

At the same time, the manager has called upon the services of his son Jordan, who has been drafted into the midfield on several occasions: 'Jordan has done well, he came on in the second half (at Worksop Town), it was a tough game but he stood up to it.'

The win at Worksop Town was praised by John Deacey who said: 'It was a very professional job, they put a bit of pressure on us in the last ten minutes of the first half with a couple of chances, but we were in control of the second half. It was a great performance from 1-14, those who came on did a great job.'

During the second half, Avenue introduced their new signing Nicky Matthews, who made a lasting impression for the visiting supporters. The striker capped off a fine cameo appearance with a well taken goal, and he was praised by Deacey, who said: 'It was nice to see the new signing Nick (Matthews) score a wonderful goal.'

On Monday night, Avenue progressed in the West Riding County Cup, despite surviving an early scare, to defeat Armthorpe Welfare 3-1 at the Horsfall Stadium. Therefore, the Evostik Northern Premier Division side travel to Harrogate Town in the semi final. Also, the remaining cup competition that Avenue are still competing in, is the Doodson Sport Cup. The West Yorkshire outfit travel to North Ferriby United on Tuesday 7th February for a place in the semi final draw. In the league, Avenue remain on the road, and face a tricky tie at Stafford Rangers this weekend.
