Gingerbreads add Battersby

Deeping Rangers striker joins Grantham.

Grantham have added to their squad with the signing of experienced striker Tony Battersby. The former Lincoln City marksman has left Deeping Rangers to sign for the Gingerbreads.

“When I heard he was available, I was straight on the phone”. Said Grantham joint manager Wayne Hallcro. “I have known Batts for a number of years from his time at Stamford and played against him and on the same side. He has always been a player who impressed me.”

Battersby scored 21 goals in his time with the Imps and has since starred for a number of clubs including Kings’ Lynn and Grays Athletic.

“We need competition and cover for the system we are playing.” Said Grantham joint manager Jimmy Albans.

“At the moment, cover and competition for Ben is probably the only thing we don’t have from the current squad. At the moment, from what we have got, Ben would be pretty irreplaceable.

"Tony is a similar player; he is good in the air, holds the ball well and brings others into play. His experience and attitude will be a benefit to us. He knows very well the way we are going at the moment, he is not being signed to be the starter week in, week out. He will give us an option to rest Ben either within games, or for a whole 90 minutes if needed. Ben has been carrying one or two knocks, but will always give 100% when the game starts."

Battersby will join the Gingerbreads squad for their upcoming Evo-Stik League Division 1 South clash with Coalville Town.
