Glassboys: Happy hunting hot-shot!

EVO-STIK League Stourbridge have wished striker Jordan Archer well as he prepared to make his Chester debut on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old, pictured, is getting ready to kick off against Barrow at the Deva Stadium after the National League club put in a seven-day approach in for his services last week and he subsequently agreed to move north.

Chester, currently 22nd in the National League table and managed by former Solihull Moors boss Marcus Bignot, have signed the hot-shot on contract until 2019 after beating off stiff competition from Tranmere Rovers.

The latest player to move up the divisions after starring in Gary Hackett’s side, he follows in the footsteps of a number of recent graduates including Dan Scarr to Birmingham City and Kristian Green to Solihull Moors last season.

Archer, who joined the Glassboys in November 2016 from Bedworth United after spells with Chasetown, Cradley Town, Tipton Town, Tividale, Redditch United and Boldmere St Michaels had nine goals to his name in 17 appearances this season in the EVO-STIK League's top flight after 13 in 34 last term.

He'd already spent time on trial at League One Walsall since the campaign kicked off and the Glassboys paid tribute to Archer in a statement confirming the move. Hailing him as an integral part of Gary Hackett’s side who posed a constant threat from wide areas as well central positions, joint assistant manager Jon Ford said: "Jordan has been fantastic for us and he's a great guy. We wish him all the best and he deserves his move. He's gone a couple of levels higher and with full-time coaching, Jordan will do well."

A club spokesman added: "The club would like to thank Jordan for his efforts while in the red and white of Stourbridge and wish him well in his new chapter at Chester."
