Goalkeeper departs Yellows

Warrington Town have announced the departure of goalkeeper Dan Atherton.

Atherton, 22, made 49 appearances for the Yellows last season, helping the club reach the NPL play-off final.

The club announced that Atherton had been offered a new deal to stay at Cantilever Park but has instead chosen to pursue an offer in the Welsh Premier League.

Born in Haydock and a boyhood Liverpool fan, Atherton featured for Liverpool’s Under 18s and Under 23s side, playing in the EFL Trophy as well as the UEFA Youth League.

He had a loan spell at Marine back in 2020, which was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Atherton was part of Liverpool’s 28-man squad that went on tour to America in 2019, where Jurgen Klopp featured the goalkeeper in an outfield position due to injuries to other players.
