Greenfields Pitch of the Year awards launch next month

By James Gordon

In the latest newsletter from EVO-STIK League partners Greenfields, they reveal information about their Pitch of the Year awards.

Next month, Greenfields will be asking clubs to vote for the best pitches in their division in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

Last year’s Pitch of the Year Awards received nominations from 80% of member clubs for their top pitches, from which we shortlisted three clubs per division with the highest nominations.

During the pitch inspections our judging panel marked the surfaces on the following criteria:

Greenfields #12 1

Greenfields #12 1

• Clegg tests
• Moisture tests
• Visibility of lines
• Overall grass coverage
• Quality of grass in goal mouth areas
• Overall surface stability

The judges also interviewed each Groundsman as well as taking into account the following aspects:

• Fertiliser frequency
• Summer renovation plans
• Staff used for pitch maintenance
• Maintenance equipment owned by the club
• Weather on the day of the visit
• Geographical location and weather implications
• Average hours of pitch usage
• Level of irrigation in place at the club

Whilst visiting each club we documented our inspections by using a bespoke app ensuring the same information and photos were recorded at each club.

YOUR VOTE COUNTS!

We would like you to rate your chosen pitch via the online survey that we will send out scoring for line visibility, grass coverage, surface stability with an overall score out of 5.

Once the votes are in, we will create a shortlist to visit. The three winners will be presented with a trophy and a £500 voucher from GreenFields.
