Halford appointed as Mossley manager

Lilywhites confirm new boss

Mossley have appointed Steve Halford as the club's new manager following the departure of Gareth McClelland.

Halford will be assisted by Peter Band, who will also continue on the club's playing staff.

31-year old Halford's playing career included spells at Chester City, Accrington Stanley and Droylsden, as well as a brief spell as caretaker manager of Hyde in April 2011.

After leaving Hyde, Halford joined Mossley and made 21 appearances - scoring twice - before leaving the club in December to find a job in management.

Band also joined the club in the summer, after spending time as assistant manager of Woodley Sports under former Mossley manager Chris Wilcock.

In a statement released to the league on Tuesday, the club said, "We are delighted to offer (Steve) the opportunity and are equally delighted that he has accepted, having turned down several other offers in order to take the job here at Seel Park."

Halford's first game in charge will be Tuesday night's Manchester Premier Cup clash with Abbey Hey
