Hanley Town sign former Northern Ireland international

Experienced forward James Lawire has joined Hanley Town after being granted a release by Witton Albion.

The Northern Irishman, 31, has experience playing further up the football pyramid earlier in his career and has also made three senior appearances for his national team.

Lawire came through the Port Vale youth setup and made 27 appearances for the first team.

He has spent the majority of his career with Altrincham, making over 200 appearances for the Robins, before spells at Hednesford Town, Nantwich Town and Witton followed.

John Macken’s Witton were relegated at the end of last season, and following a seven-day approach from the fellow Pitching In NPL West Division side, Lawire has made the decision to move onto pastures new.

In a statement on social media, Hanley Town say that their new signing "comes with a fantastic pedigree of playing at a higher level", and will be "another fantastic addition for the football club".
