Here's to many more appearances!

Proud officials at EVO-STIK League Sheffield FC are looking forward to Alex Brown making many more appearances for his country after the teenager's England debut.

The 19-year-old defender at the world's oldest football club is pictured coming on for the Three Lions against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday and being congratulated by Paul Fairclough after forcing his way into the England C manager's thinking at the Whitehall Stadium.

Already on standby for the match against the FAI's semi-professional side in an U23s squad dominated by National League players, the teenager was reported to have given a "good account of himself" as a 55th minute substitute despite the hosts running out 4-2 winners.

His highlights included forcing a good save from the Irish keeper and a Club spokesman said: "Congratulations Brownie from all at the world's first and here's to many more appearances in the Three Lions shirt!

"Our officials were delighted to receive very positive comments from FA reps about Alex afterwards and we're very proud of him and his achievement representing both Sheffield FC and the Northern Premier League."

A student at Sheffield Hallam University studying sport and exercise science, the teenager and former Hallam starlet signed on at The BT Local Stadium in October 2017.

He told the club's website: "It was a great experience for me to test myself against players in higher divisions with more experience. It was a huge honour to make my England C debut and to represent my country, both for me personally and the club for getting the recognition it deserves. I can only thank everyone at Sheffield FC for giving me the opportunity and to play games to achieve this."
