Highs and lows for Carruthers

Basford United manager Martin Carruthers is preparing to start the new EVO-STIK League season without influential midfielder Courey Grantham.

Signed from Northern Counties East League Heanor Town in 2015, the former Ilkeston player is facing minor surgery on a hernia and likely to miss the opening weeks of the season.

Carruthers and his management team of coaches Mark Clifford and Rob Duffy are adjusting their early season plans only weeks after signing new one year contracts at Greenwich Hamlet and drawing 2-2 with Shildon on Friday night.

Basford have won promotion twice during Carruthers' four years at the helm and chairman Chris Munroe said: "I'm delighted to get the team management on a contract as I am very aware of the hard work they have done to get the club where it is now. These contracts give everyone security as we plan to move the club forward".
