Howarth moving on from Blues

Simon Haworth is standing down as the manager of EVO-STIK League Clitheroe after the club's final outing of the season.

The former Welsh international, pictured, is waving goodbye to Shawbridge on Saturday after the Blues host Skelmersdale United on the final day pf the EVO-STIK League North campaign.

The Blues announced Haworth's departure on Thursday in a statement on their website before hosting Clitheroe in a 3-1 reverse at Shawbridge.

The club said: "Simon Haworth has today decided to step down from his manager's post after Saturday’s final game of the season. After two enjoyable seasons of exciting football resulting in play-off chases, cup finals and semi-finals, and some incredible performances, the club wish to sincerely thank Simon for his services to the club on and off the pitch, and offer their full support to whatever the next step in his career is."

Howarth, who guided the Blues to a mid-table finish despite losing his penultimate match, won five full international caps for Wales and played 242 games for Cardiff, Coventry, Wigan and Tranmere. After scoring 83 goals, injury brought a premature end to his footballing career before he gained his UEFA coaching badges and started his management career at Eagley.
