Hughes joins Lancaster City from Chester

Lancaster City have announced the signing of Matty Hughes on dual-registration from Chester.

Hughes, 28, has previously featured for AFC Fylde and Fleetwood as well as making 76 appearances from Chester, scoring 13 goals.

He joins on an initial one-month agreement.

Manager Mark Fell said: “What we’ve got is a proven forward who brings different attributes to our other strikers, he’ll fit into the group well and has a great attitude and work ethic.”

Fell also confirmed that Jacob Holland Wilkinson won’t be back at the Giant Axe in the short term future

“Jacob has done fantastically well and his success on loan with us clearly put in the thoughts of Alex Neil as he featured on the bench for the first team," he said.

"That’s what it’s all about and I’m pleased we could help Jacob on his way, whether he will be back during the season remains to be seen but it’s an option on all sides if and when it suits the parent club.”
