Hume returns at world's oldest club

Former Matlock Town manager Mark Hulme will be back on the touchlines of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League next season as the new manager of Sheffield FC.

Hume, who left the Gladiators last year and also helped Bradford Park Avenue to win the EVO-STIK NPL's promotion play-offs in 2010 during a four year spell at the National League club, was named as the successor to James Colliver at the world's oldest football club on Friday.

Hume, pictured, kicked off his professional career with Doncaster Rovers and Hull City before going on to enjoy a long and distinguished career as a no-nonsense central defender at Alfreton Town, Barrow, Stalybridge Celtic, Buxton and Harrogate Town. In 2009 he was a key member of the Eastwood Town side who reached the Third Round of the FA Cup and won the NPL Premier Division title in the same season.

In a statement announcing his appintment, officials at The BT Local Stadium also confirmed the appointment of former Buxton defender Scott Maxfield as Hume's number two for the 2017-18 campaign. The 38-year-old, who teamed up with his former Bradford PA teammate at Matlock two years ago, left Northern Counties East League Premier Division neighbours Handsworth Parramore to be be reunited. In a twist of football irony, they named former Club boss Colliver as their new boss on Friday.

Former Clipstone and Staveley Miners Welfare boss Colliver replaced Andy Kiwomya in February 2016 and departed after his side's 15th-placed finish to the 2016-17 EVO-STIK NPL First Division South season following last Saturday's 1-0 reverse at runners-up and now play-off finalists Witton Albion on the final day of the regular campaign.
