Hunt starts for new boss after Wilson's early exit

By David Watters

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Stamford AFC are looking for a new manager after parting company with Andrew Wilson on Tuesday morning less than six weeks after he took the helm.

Appointed at the end of September as the successor to David Staff, the former Market Harborough and Corby Town boss, pictured, left the Zeeco Stadium following a meeting of the Premier Division club's board on Monday night.

After losing his first game at the helm at Coleshill Town in the FA Cup, the 39-year-old secured two draws and a single victory from eight league outings before Saturday's 2-1 defeat at First Division South Carlton Town in the FA Trophy triggered his departure.

The second from bottom Daniels host Nantwich Town in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight on Saturday and officials expect to name an interim management team later on Tuesday.

According to officials, the decision to part company with the UEFA A coach was taken after "careful consideration".

Stamford AFC chairman Bob Feetham said: "The directors felt that, with results failing to make progress, we urgently needed to make a change. Four successive defeats, including the nature of that 2-1 Trophy loss at Carlton Town, started alarm bells ringing."

"This is far from a knee jerk re-action. NPL survival is of paramount importance and we will now seek someone to quickly scour the market and bring in quality signings who can make a real difference at this level."

He added: "However, we thank Andrew for the energy and commitment he brought to the task and wish him well in the future."

A club spokesman added: "Management experience, particularly at NPL level would be welcome. An appointment will be made very quickly but, rest assured, the team will be in good hands as they prepare for Saturday's visit of Nantwich."

During his eight years at Harborough Town the former Corby Town midfielder Wilson guided the club to three promotions in five seasons. As well as coaching full-time at Leicester City's academy, he was also the assistant manager of Histon in 2012 when the club preserved their Football Conference status.

Potential candidates to succeed Wilson should send their footballing CVs with a covering letter to Daniels secretary Phil Bee by noon on Sunday at: Phil.bee1947@hotmail.co.uk.
