Jackson vows to win title at first attempt

ROMULUS' latest signing Marcus Jackson arrived at Coles Lane this week and immediately declared he wants to win the Evo-Stik First Division South title, writes Andy Mitchell.

The vastly experienced 33-year-old arrived from Halesowen Town, where he played in all of the Yeltz’s games after signing in February, scoring five goals in 14 appearances.

The former Sutton Coldfield winger also won the Southern League Midland Division with Leamington in 2009, scooping the Supporter’s Player of the Year in the process.

Jackson is convinced the Roms can make a greater impression on the Evo-Stik NPL Northern Premier League this time.

He declared: “I want to win the league and I wouldn’t go to a side if I didn’t think we could win it. Romulus don’t just have a good team this season, we have a good squad – having looked at some of the players in training we definitely have some decent young lads, and they listen as well, which helps.

“The coach [Dave Barnett] is really good – it’s not just your standard stuff, it is something different all the time, not the same sequences. For me personally, it may be a little late to improve me as a player, but with the younger lads it will bring them on.”

Jackson also revealed that Evans’ efforts to sign him were a decisive factor with Halesowen keen on retaining the influential wide man.

“Evo [Richard Evans] made it clear he wanted me to sign and gave me the talk – he is persistent, he knows what he wants and he came out of his way to sign me.”

Jackson becomes Romulus’ second summer signing after the capture of Birmingham City legend Paul Devlin as boss Richard Evans delivers the experienced players he promised at the end of last season.

Evans is delighted with his latest capture. He said: “Marcus is another player that will add a bit of knowhow and has the right attitude – he knows what have to dedicate in games and in training and his experience can only help us.”
