Holt, 20, has been with the club twice before, once on loan from Carlisle United and then permanently for the 2018-19 season.
He recently featured in their 4-3 victory over Lancaster.
“It’s never nice being labelled a trialist,” he said.
“I’ve had to prove myself again but now I’ve signed, it’s been worth it.
“I always said when I left, you’d struggle to find a better group of lads.
“I just want to cement my place in the team. Competition for places is high but I’ve just got to prove myself and once I get that chance, I need to stay in the team and keep working hard.”
