Kidsgrove reveal new club logo

Ahead of the new league season starting on Saturday, Kidsgrove Athletic have launched a new club logo.

The current logo, which represents the town's coat of arms, we believe was adopted by the club in the 1990s or the new millennium, and it will continue to be the club's crest.

While the new logo will feature on signage, social media, the kits and merchandise. It features a phoenix rising, which was chosen to symbolise how the club will continue to progress up the football pyramid.

The old badge will be phased out over the next two seasons.

Vice-chairman Ian Cooper said: "I did a little bit of research to see if the badge was historic to the club when it was formed, it wasn't, it was adopted from the town's crest.

"One or two people did comment that when it was printed you couldn't tell what it was because it had shrunk down and was a little bit ugly. Although I appreciate some people will always associate that as the club.

"That will stay as the club crest so it won't disappear altogether.

"The badge has become a phoenix because when we took over the club it was in £45,000 worth of debt and, the club was five days away from shutting down.

"We rose like a Phoenix, we came from nowhere as we were going under. But from a lot of people like Mick Fitzjohn, Janet Cooper, myself, Ian Donaldson, as well as brothers Chris behind the bar and Dan, who have supported the club from a young age, we've all come from different walks of life and, they've all contributed to the club and, it has strengthened every year."
