Kinniburgh: I'll carry on caretaking

Steven Kinniburgh is happy to carry on caretaking at EVO-STIK League Corby Town for as long as the Steelmen want him.

Since stepping up last weekend following the exit of David Bell, the player-coach and academy director, pictured, has led the Steelmen to back-to-back wins against Stocksbridge Park Steels and Kidsgrove Athletic to lift them clear of the EVO-STIK League South drop zone.

Signed by former manager Gary Mills in December 2016, the 28-year-old Scottish defender told fans he was enjoying the role on Friday as the Steelmen prepared for Sunday's Buildbase FA Trophy clash at divisional rivals Romulus.

Kinniburgh, who's spent three years at Glasgow Rangers before spells at Oxford United, Cambridge United, AFC Telford United, Bedford Town and Kettering Town, said: “I’m happy to step in and do this as long as I am needed. I am more than happy to be here and I want to help this club. I know how much this club means to people. I can bring players in and shape the squad in whatever way I want to. I have the best interests for the football club.”

“I’m happy with the performances and the desire we showed. There were some last ditch tackles, we showed the hunger that is needed. We are getting over 300 fans each home game despite the results. We knew we had to be more disciplined, more organised. As a group We set out the objectives before the matches and have matched it all, we have had a good shape about us.”

Former Coventry City and Norwich City midfielder Bell, 33, stepped up as the successor to Gary Mills in May after arriving as assistant manager during the latter half of the 2016-17 campaign.
