Kittrick is back to lead Seadogs

Former Ossett Town, Guiseley and AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick is the new manager of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Scarborough Athletic.

Kittrick, 57, was unveiled on Tuesday night as the successor to former joint managers Paul Foot and Bryan Hughes, pictured below, following their departure from the Seadogs after just over a year in charge two days before Christmas.

Pictured being welcomed on board by Scarborough Athletic chairman Dave Holland, Kittrick left the Bucks in August 2015 after eight months in charge, having previously enjoyed six hugely successful years at Guiseley.

Before leaving the Nethermoor club in September 2013, Kittrick guided them to the NPL Challenge Cup in 2009, two West Riding county cups and promotion as champions to the National League North in 2010.

In a statement announcing the appointment, Holland told the First Division North club's fans that he was delighted to appoint such an experienced manager.

Holland said: "I’m over the moon to bring someone of Steve’s calibre into the club and that he can see the potential that Scarborough Athletic has. Our fans want the side playing with belief and confidence again and I believe Steve can help us achieve that.

"I’ve been gobsmacked by the 59 applications we have received over the last couple of weeks. Also when a senior player like Chris [Bolder] suggested I speak to Steve then I didn't hesitate to get in contact with him.

"The board has taken its time to make this appointment to make sure we got the right candidate for the situation we are in and a plan for what we need, and we believe Steve is the exactly the right man for that."

Kittrick is looking to quickly get his new charges playing with confidence again following their stuttering start to what the club had hoped would be a promotion campaign.

The Seadogs host Bamber Bridge at Queensgate on Saturday and he said: "We just need a win, however it comes and to get some points on the board. I’ve been to the last two games and the side needs a confidence boost and a bit of tweaking.

"I've been in with the fans at the last two games and there was no moaning and no berating, they are eager for the side to do well. They want to see a successful side and with a bit of confidence one that plays good football."

Kittrick, who's first act was to name Chris Bolder as his number two, added: "I spoke to the players this evening and want them to play without fear and enjoy their football when they play for Scarborough Athletic.

"Scarborough are a big club with a lot of history, and at this moment in time it is not in the position in the league that it should be. I’m privileged to be asked to take the job, now we've got to get on with things starting on Saturday.

"My motto is 'Together we are strong', and its about everyone at the club pulling together. The most important thing in the short term is to win a few games and then you earn the right to play football. My primary aim for Saturday is to try and get a result and get the players believing in themselves and in each other."
