They host North Ferriby United, who are two places above them in the table, at home on Saturday.

He told the club’s official website: “It was a great effort by the boys and a very good performance, we couldn’t have asked for more.

“We played against a very good team in South Shields, but our shape was good and we had a couple of chances too.

“Overall I was very pleased with the performance.

“We need to take this performance onto Saturday's game now, which is a massive game. We need the same effort and same commitment and we’re going all out to try and win the game.”

Lancaster are accepting applications for the position of first team manager. Applicants should email their CV to the club secretary at secretary@lancastercity.com with the subject “Managerial Vacancy”. The deadline for applications is Tuesday September 25.
