Lancaster to host Fair Play seminar

Dolly Blues have set the standard in fair play over the last three years

Lancaster City, winners of the FA’s National Respect and Fair Play Award last May are certainly showing they are taking the responsibility of winning that award very seriously indeed.

Not only is the club currently leading the Evo-Stik League First Division North Fair Play table yet again but it is also putting together a seminar promoting fair play and the FA’s Respect Programme throughout the region.

Club Director and organiser of the seminar Stuart Houghton said this week “Whilst the F.A. is to be congratulated for their Respect campaign, it has been largely down to the F.A. to carry the burden. At Lancaster City we believe those of us who care about our wonderful game are all in this together, and we aim to demonstrate through this seminar that there is a way for all clubs to contribute to this programme. If Lancaster City can do it, why can’t Manchester City ?

The seminar will seek to add extra impetus to the F.A.’s Respect programme by engaging various parties with an active interest in football, but markedly different roles, at the same event. Three specially selected speakers - an official, a sponsor, and a manager – will each give a talk on Respect & Fair Play from their perspective, to an invited audience of Lancaster City, other local club, and league representatives, who will all hopefully contribute to the exchange of knowledge, suggestions, and solutions.

Such an innovative format could be adapted for rolling out across the country, up to the highest level, and play a major part in promoting a message vital to the future of football. Lancaster City are proud to be trialling this ground breaking event and reports will be sent to the F.A. and Evo-Stik League afterwards to enable a proper assessment of its potential”.

The initiative stems from the success of Lancaster City winning the Evo-Stik Fair Play League for the last two seasons and picking up the F.A.'s prestigious national Respect & Fair Play Award for Steps 1-4 at Wembley last May.

Those interested in participating, or coming along as observers, should contact Lancaster City F.C. office for full details and agenda, Tel (01524)-382238, or e-mail barry.newsham@lancastercityfc.com .
