Saddened officials at Harrison Park are planning to mark the passing of their long-serving secretary next Tuesday night with a minute's applause before kick-off when they host Spalding United in EVO-STIK NPL First Division South.
Involved in football since his childhood and the father of former Leek Town chairman Andy Wain, the former police inspector, Staffordshire FA director and season ticket holder at Manchester United will be remembered at the fixture on February 28 after passing away suddenly last week while on holiday abroad with his family.
In a statement announcing their first opportunity to publicly mark his untimely passing and pay a public tribute, the Blues said their former player had been their "anchor for the last 15 years".
The statement read: "In accordance with the family's wishes, Brian will be honoured with a minute's applause before the game, in what will prove to be an emotional night for all connected to the club.
"His son Andy and Leek Town Football Club would be delighted if fellow members of the league would like to attend to say farewell to the Blues stalwart.
"The board would like to encourage all people who knew Brian and would like to pay their respects to attend the game and honour his memory in this manner."
The Wain family has been steeped in Leek Town's history since the Staffordshire club's foundation in 1946 when grandfather Lol Wain became their first groundsman. Grandmother Winnie was a member of the ladies' committee while a great uncle helped to build the first changing rooms at their home.
