The President’s Cup will not feature in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s Step 4 clubs’ calendars this season.
At a meeting of all club chairman in May, the clubs voted overwhelmingly to defer the competition for at least one year. “Two poor winters, coupled with poor attendances have meant that the vast majority of ties in the President’s Cup lost money last season” said League chairman Mark Harris. “We have already brought the start of the season forward by one week to help avoid fixture congestion later on, and the decision to defer the President’s Cup competition is part of that strategy.”
Despite there being no games played under its auspices, the President’s Cup – originally donated by former NPL chairman and President Derek Keighley – will now be awarded to the club topping the Fair Play charts next season.
