Leek Town appoint new manager

Josh Brehaut has been unveiled as the new manager of Leek Town.

Brehaut was previously one of two assistants to former boss Neil Baker, who stepped down in the wake of Monday's 4-2 defeat to Pitching In NPL West Division leaders Kidsgrove Athletic.

Brehaut also works within the academy setup at Port Vale.

He will be assisted at the F Ball Community Stadium by Peter Ward, who remains in his existing role following the departure of Baker.

The club have said that the need for a "period of stability" was a key factor behind the decision to recruit from within.

“I am incredibly grateful to the Board of Directors for entrusting me with this role," Brehaut said.

"I am excited to get started as we continue to support this huge football club in achieving its ambitions. We have build a fantastic squad which we believe can achieve great things."

Brehaut takes over a Blues side currently sitting eighth in the NPL West Division table, having picked up seven points from their opening five games.

His first game in charge will come at home to Grimsby Borough in FA Cup first round qualifying this Saturday.

Chairman Jon Eeles said: “Anyone following Neil has huge shoes to fill, but we felt it was important for continuity at this time and we feel we have an excellent combination in Josh & Peter.

"We have met them several times this week and have been impressed with their professionalism, enthusiasm and pragmatism with regard to the opportunity at the club and the task in hand.

"Both know the existing group of players really well, and indeed Peter and Steve were heavily involved in the recruitment of the new players over the summer.

"I would urge everyone who has the club's best interests at heart to get behind them and support them in the forthcoming games and the rest of the season."
