Long-serving Colls goalkeeper departs

Atherton Collieries have confirmed the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Danny Taberner.

Taberner made his debut in August 2014 and went on to make more appearances than any other keeper at the club in recent decades.

In total, the 29-year-old featured 134 times over three spells.

However, Colls have confirmed that the shot-stopper has now departed the Skuna Stadium to “pursue other opportunities within football”.

He joined City of Liverpool for a brief spell last season, but after making only nine appearances he returned to the Pitching In NPL Premier Division side.

Brad Cooke’s side narrowly avoided relegation last season and must now begin planning for life with a new number one between the posts.
