Marine in fresh floodlight appeal

Club desperate for revamped lights.

Premier Division side Marine have issued a fresh appeal for help to obtain funds for new floodlights following a series of failures and faults in recent years.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said; “When we switch on our floodlights for a game we keep our fingers crossed that they don’t fail. Unfortunately in the last three seasons we have had two matches abandoned and three major electrical faults causing fire damage. Our floodlights are 35 years old and unreliable and have to be replaced as soon as possible.

"Playing at our level of football and as Liverpool’s premier non-league football club we have to have floodlights. We cannot operate as a business without them and our community coaching of local children under floodlights would also cease.

"This is a critical situation for our football club. The installation of the new four corner floodlighting system, for which we have planning approval, takes absolute priority as we cannot now rely on the performance of the existing lights.

I appeal to our fans, the public, our suppliers, members and customers to make donations to our ground appeal in a real effort to help fund the installation of the new system as soon as we can.”

“The immediate target now is to raise £40k through donations and special events which will cover at least 50% of the cost of the new system and the remaining balance is hoped to be covered by grants from the football authorities. So far the fund stands at £15,550 so we still have nearly £25k to find. We have to demonstrate that we have the funds before making the grant applications and we cannot place an order with our preferred installer until we have the cost totally funded. So it is vital we raise the £40k and the sooner the better!

If anyone would like to make a donation to the appeal then cheques should be made payable to “Marine FC Ground Appeal” and should be sent to Joint Hon. Treasurer, Mr RG Kewley, 53 Seafield Avenue, Crosby, Liverpool L23 OTG.

If anyone would like to organise a fundraising event for the appeal please contact Club President Jean Pierre Hall on 0151-924-4448.”

Please help us we are YOUR football club.”
