Marske striker to lead the teams out at the FA Cup final

Marske United striker Adam Boyes will lead out the Chelsea and Liverpool teams at this weekend’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

Boyes, 31, enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 46 goals in 50 appearances to help Marske to promotion.

It was his 11 goals in the FA Cup that saw him win the FA Golden Ball award as the top scorer in the competition.

As part of the FA Cup’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Boyes will now be part of the big day at Wembley.

A club spokesperson said: “This achievement is reward to Adam on his fantastic season. A great advert for the success Marske United have had this season, and also credit to the Non-League game .

“It is fantastic that the FA are rewarding Adam at this seasons showcase game.”

Boyes started the season in style, plundering five past Pickering Town as Marske won 7-0 in the FA Cup preliminary round.

He followed that up with two more in a 6-0 win over Seaham Red Star in the first qualifying round.

They stunned South Shields 3-0 in the second qualifying round, with Boyes bagging once, before he scored a brace in a shock 4-0 win at National League North side Chester in a replay, following a goalless draw in the north east.

A replay was also needed in the fourth qualifying round, as Marske went agonisingly close to making the first round proper.

They held National League side Gateshead to a goalless draw, but lost 3-2 in the replay - with Boyes on the scoresheet yet again.
