Massive fundraiser follows golf day

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Spennymoor Town are already looking forward to their next big fundraising event after banking £5000 from the club's first ever golf day.

Sponsored by GDF and Great Annual Savings and organised by the First Division North club's directors, the tournament at the prestigious Ramside Hall Golf Club, pictured, saw 18 teams of four battling it out for a glittering array of prizes including foreign holidays, top of the range golfing equipment and a £20,000 BMW car for a hole in one which went unclaimed.

After the success of the event on Sunday 1 November in aid of the clubs's academy, officials are planning to stage it again next season and are now preparing for what is shaping up to be an even bigger fundraiser at the same venue later this month.

Entitled, 'The Night on the Town' and taking place on Saturday 14 November, the dinner for fans, players, officials and sponsors is already sold out.

The Moors are laying on a free coach to ferry their fans to Evesham in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round earlier in the day and a delighted Spennymoor Town chairman Brad Groves confirmed on Tuesday that the proceeds were set to dwarf their previous efforts.

Groves said: "We have sold 35 tables at £1200 per table which makes this the biggest fundraiser for the club yet. On top of that we have eight to 10 incredible high quality raffle and auction prizes with items including memorabilia from Ronaldo, Messi, Beckham, Pele and Mayweather to name a few to top that up even further.

"We are sure it will be a record-breaking fundraiser for the club. It is shaping up to be the best yet with the entertainment we have lined up and the hotel are gearing up for their biggest event this year at the Ramside."

Moors volunteers acting as marshals at the golf day also filmed the event for posterity. To watch the highlights visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBUMrtRPgUg&feature=youtu.be
