The players - striker Rob Duffy who ruptured his achilles tendon on the opening day of the season, defender Rob Darkin with damaged knee ligaments and skipper Jake Sheridan, who broke his leg in the FA Trophy, are all on the road to recovery but won't play for manager Martin Carruthers again this term.
The game at Greenwich Avenue on Monday 31 October was designated as a “pay what you want" fixture for fans on Sunday by United officials who said the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club would match the monies collected pound for pound to double the funds raised for the trio.
Basford chairman Chris Munroe, pictured, said: “These lads have all suffered serious injuries, leading to them being off work and with families to look after. It is our duty to support them as we do with any such injury to anyone incurred in our club. Every pound paid on the night will be doubled up by the club so we can provide a meaningful amount.”
