Brown, who succeeded Darren Peacock at the First Division North club at the end of September, had been working alone at the Giant Axe before naming McCann, pictured, as his assistant manager on Friday.
McCann managed Squires Gate for three years and led them to sixth spot in the North West Counties Football League, their highest ever finish, before losing his job at the start of the season following a poor start to the current campaign.
He was in the dugout at the Giant Axe for Saturday's 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Mossley and Brown, who works alongside his new assistant at Myerscough College, believes his arrival will give their prospects a huge boost.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's reverse, Brown told the Lancaster Guardian: “I’ve known Dave a long time and he has a great knowledge of Non-League football.
“I’ve been looking to bring somebody in because I have been working on my own to a certain extent since I became manager. But Dave is a very welcome addition and will fit right in at the club.”
