McCormack to stay with Leek

Leek Town update, by Michael Cope

Leek Town goalkeeper Joe McCormack has turned down an approach from Conference North outfit Eastwood Town to remain at Harrison Park.

Former Blues’ boss John Ramshaw issued the required 7-days notice of approach but the former Rainworth keeper who joined Leek in December 2011 to replace injury victim Danny Roberts has decided to remain with the club.

McCormack started his career in Mansfield Town's centre of excellence before spending four years on the books at Coventry City. Whilst at Coventry he won two caps for Ireland Under-17s before joining Alfreton Town in 2008 where he spent three seasons.

Coming up
Leek’s next league game will take place at Harrison Park on Saturday 25th February when Belper Town will be the visitors.

Improving Belper are currently 13th in the league table with 36 points from 28 games but lie five places and 9 points below Leek who have two games in hand.

The Nailers are on a run of four victories in their last six games after halting a run of five defeats on the trot whilst on Saturday they beat bottom markers Quorn 2-1 at Christchurch Meadow.

The unresolved Staffordshire Senior Cup Quarter Final tie against Kidsgrove Athletic will now take place at the Seddon Stadium on Wednesday 22 February, kick off 7.45pm.

The game will be played to a conclusion on the night and the winners have been drawn at home in the Semi-Final against Stoke City.

Blues will give fitness tests to Darren Tinson and Aden Johnson before the team is named.

Meanwhile, Blues’ league game against Romulus on 21 February has therefore been postponed and re-scheduled for Tuesday 6 March at Harrison Park.

Season ticket holder suffers double leg facture
Leek Town season ticket holder Arthur Wood was taking the public footpath between his garage and home recently when he slipped on a patch of wet grass.

Now the garage is quite remote from his cottage and as it was dark and there was no-one around, he was forced to crawl in agony across three fields and over two stiles before crossing the road to get to his home.

Arthur’s two sons John and Mark are both stewards at Harrison Park but Mark was out at a party and John had arrived home from work half an hour earlier and had gone to bed. However, he hadn't fallen asleep and so fortunately he heard Arthur's cries for help.

The ambulance was called and Arthur, 69, was hauled off to hospital where x-rays revealed a broken fib and tib in the left leg.

So bad were the breaks that the bones are now pinned together externally and he is expected to be out of action for another six months – get well soon Arthur.
