Memorial match to mark tragedy

The EVO-STIK League South's Millers are hoping for a big turn out for the fundraising fixture at Stoke Lane on Sunday 24 September following the sad loss of talented youngster Brahima Ceesay at the age of 18.

As the club mourned his loss this week, first team manager Wayne Scott committed to making his players available to turn out in a Carlton Town XI against the teenager's teammates from the U18s in the benefit match for his family.

Carlton Town chairman Mick Garton and Carlton Town Juniors chairman Paul Whitby paid tribute to the teenager who'd been with the club for the last three years in a joint statement, describing him as a valuable member of the team and a "loveable lad with his positive attitude, bright smile and silky skills".

Urging supporters to attend, they said: “We were sat together talking about the new season a few days ago when we heard this tragic news. It is a real tragedy, especially being so young. Our thoughts are obviously with his family at this time.

“It is important we do something to honour Brahima and it would be nice if we can raise some money for the family in the process – no one should have to worry about funeral costs when your children are so young.

"We urge everyone from the club to come to the memorial game at Stoke Lane which will be on Sunday, 24th September at 2pm which will be between Brahima`s team, managed by John Kilcullen, against a Carlton Town XI.

“First team manager Wayne Scott has already said he will make first team players available for the game and Paul Whitby will engage with the U18s Sunday team who will also provide players for the Carlton Town XI.

"Every section of the club will donate a prize for a raffle which will be held after the game and we hope everyone will engage in this to ensure we have a decent turn out for Brahima.”

U18s boss Kilcullen told the club's website: “From my point as his manager and being a friend, it`s a tragedy to lose someone like Brahima. Myself and all his team-mates feel this shock and hurt, but Brahima will always live on in our hearts on and off the field.”
