Millers swoop for Asher

Former Grantham defender joins Carlton Town.

Carlton Town have signed Alistair Asher following the defender's departure from Grantham Town.

The 31 year old defender had also spoke to Eastwood Town but the local lad was impressed with the set up and ambition at Stoke Lane following a meeting with manager Les McJannet and Chairman Mick Garton and has agreed to join the club.

McJannet revealed he was delighted at the prospect of having Asher on board ‘He will bring experience and versatility to our back line and help the young lads in the side too, he has a wealth of experience having played at conference and football league level and has a good attitude and I’m looking forward to working with him.’ Said the Millers chief.

The defender can pay at either centre half or full back and will join less than two weeks after McJannet admitted to this website and the Nottingham Post that he needed to bolster his back line. Ironically, the news comes after Carlton kept a rare clean sheet at the weekend against Brigg.

Carlton have also re-signed Ricky Gardener after he returned from travelling following the departures of Curtis Shaw and Jermaine Hollis.
