Moatmen salute milestone man

Fans and officials at Gresley FC have been paying tribute to Jamie Barrett after their skipper made his six hundredth appearance for the Moatmen in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

Despite producing another sturdy captain's performance at Basford United on Saturday, the central defender, pictured, was unable to stop his side slipping to a narrow 1-0 defeat to the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South play-off chasers on his milestone appearance.

A former Sheffield United trainee, the 33-year-old former Burton Albion, Bromsgrove Rovers, Hednesford and Mickleover Sports player is renowned for his consistency and has won a cabinet full of accolades and awards since arriving at the Moat Ground back in 2009.

After sticking with the club through liquidation and demotion, the club legend was saluted by supporters on social media and at Greenwich Avenue by the band of travelling Gresleyites who chanted his name throughout the landmark afternoon.
